Last Olympic Ticket Day

Have you applied for your London 2012 tickets yet? I applied a couple of weeks ago, and I’m hoping to at least get some tickets although definitely not all that I applied for! The last day you can apply is today, so you need to get your application in by midnight if you want to have a chance of winning the tickets.

I also read that for most of the big events only about half the tickets on sale are going to the public. This seems very low. I know that the games are paid for by corporate sponsors, but a lot of the money from the games also came from the tax payer. When you’ve got a stadium full of tens of thousands of people and half of them are there because of corporate deals it definitely takes away from the spirit of the Olympics. I suppose it’s inevitable – someone has to pay for the games – but it still seems unfair.

Even though I’m not really interested in many of the events I’ve applied to go and see quite a few. I think that this is probably the only time in our lifetime that we’ll have the Olympics so close, so it makes sense to make the most of it. Who knows whether we’ll ever have a major sporting event in the country again after the disaster of the World Cup application!

The most popular event is the 100m final, so if you’re just applying for that be aware that you probably won’t get the tickets!
