I’m not a huge fan of Facebook – I always tend to end up disliking friends who use it more than I did in the past simply because theirs status updates and photos are so annoying. I know a lot of people love it though – I just didn’t realise anyone loved it enough to name their child after a part of the social networking site.
A couple from Israel have apparently named their daughter “Like” because they enjoy using Facebook so much. They claim that they wanted to find a modern name that was different to everyone else is, and is their way of saying that they love their daughter.
The father says that people “Like” the fact that he’s called his daughter a crazy name because when he posted it on his Facebook wall 40 out of 100 friends pressed the Like button. It’s surprising that someone who enjoys Facebook so much that he names his daughter after it doesn’t have more online friends than this though!
I feel slightly sorry for the child. She’s going to have to grow up knowing that she has parents who would name her after a button on a social networking site – probably purely to get some attention from the worlds media. If that was the purpose of the name then it’s certainly worked though – most of the major news sites have run with the story which is quite surprising!
